Spooky Times with Eric D

Dec 14, 2016

You know the Andy Williams song "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" where he promises "they'll be scary ghost stories..."?  Ever wonder why he's talking about ghost in the middle of a cheery Christmas song? Host Eric Dwinnells sure did and lucky for you, he found the answer! Turns out the telling of ghost stories was a very popular tradition in England and parts of America until the early 20th century! But why? And how did this tradition fade away?

Eric explains all this and touches upon that most famous of Christmas Ghost Stories, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as well as lesser known woks by writers like M.R. James and Jerome K. Jerome. He'll even read you the shortest known ghost story in english and tell you about an odd tradition his mother insisted upon on Christmas morning.
